What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive, holistic, complementary therapy dating back to ancient Egypt, India and China.  The therapy was introduced to the West in the early 1900’s, when Dr Fitzgerald developed ‘Zone therapy’.  He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to corresponding areas and organs of the body within the same zone.  In the 1930’s, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what we recognise as modern Reflexology.

Reflexology is holistic and so works by treating the whole person, mind, body and spirit.  The organs, glands and body parts are mirrored onto the hands and feet. By applying pressure to corresponding reflex points using fingers and thumb with various techniques it encourages the body to heal itself and maintain balance.  Reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment .  The effects of stress and tension can build up and contribute to how you feel physically and emotionally.

Treatment Procedure

First visit will be longer in time due to the need to do a full consultation.

This is so that I can gather as much information about you as possible so that I can get to know you.  This is so that I can form a bespoke treatment plan and therefore treat you accordingly.  It is also so that I can ensure that it would be safe to treat you as there may be some contra-indications or cautions that we need to discuss.

How many treatments you will need are all part of the treatment plan and will depend on condition, money and time.  We usually recommend 4-6 weekly treatments for maximum benefit and then re-assess but, if you wanted a one off treatment or monthly or even yearly then that’s great too!

Everything discussed is confidential and is in accordance with GDPR. I have the statement accessible to you in person or you can view it online here
